Are you passionate about advancing renewable energy technologies and exploring innovative solutions to global energy challenges? Join the Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion Lab at the University of New Mexico as a Summer Intern and gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research!
The University of New Mexico's Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion Lab is seeking enthusiastic and motivated high school and community college students to join our team for a 2024 summer internship program. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside undergraduate, graduate students and postdoc in the field, contributing to projects focused on the development and optimization of electrochemical energy storage and conversion devices, such as batteries and CO2 electrolyzers.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting experiments and performing laboratory procedures under the guidance of graduate students and postdoc.
  • Participate in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to support ongoing research projects.
  • Contribute to the design and fabrication of electrochemical devices.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot technical challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, observations, and results.
  • Present findings to lab members and participate in group discussions.

Days & Hours: Monday-Friday, between 8:00 am-5:00 pm
Anticipated Start Date: 6/10/2024
Projected End Date: 7/02/2024

Conditions of Employment
  • Must be age 16 or older at date of hire; must be in the care of a parent or guardian if under the age of 18.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in high school or must have obtained high school diploma no greater than 24 months prior to hire date.

  • Currently enrolled in a local high school or dual credit program (rising juniors, seniors, or recent high school graduates preferred).
  • Strong interest in science, particularly in the fields of chemistry, physics, materials science, or engineering.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and willingness to take on new challenges.
