Department Summary | The Office of Advising Services promotes high-quality advising across UNT’s advising units through coordination, training/ professional development, and leadership support. Our advising team offers pathways counseling to prospective and current students, and TSI advising. The office is located in the Academic Success Center at Sage Hall. |
Position Overview | This position is responsible for providing guidance to students by appraising their interests, aptitudes, and abilities to develop a career path and degree fit. Connects students with available resources for academic success and personal/professional development. This position is responsible for providing guidance to students on Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements. This position assists in implementing programs related to student success and retention. |

Minimum Qualifications | Master’s Degree and two years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience. |

Job Duties
o | Counsels students regarding information about their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and other personal characteristics. |

o | Consults on difficult issues or expectations related to assisting students. |

o | Assists with the development retention and completion initiatives. |

o | Implements programs related to student success and retention. |
---|
o | Provides training, and direction to Academic Advisors or other staff as assigned. |

o | Counsels students regarding university requirements and individual program requirements including the applicability of transfer credits in a timely and professional manner. |

o | Counsels students regarding Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements and TSI class placement. |
---|
o | Presents academic information at new student orientations, exploring majors workshops, and on-campus events. |

o | Occasional advising and presentations at UNT Frisco. |
