Position Description

This position is located in our Owensboro, Kentucky, extension. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide academic counseling for prospective and currently enrolled students in the School of Nursing. This requires interpretation of university policies, procedures and academic requirements, analyzing and tracking applications and retention and recruitment efforts. Student orientations, assessment of credentials, preparation of academic plans, admissions, and providing excellent customer service. It may include financial aid and career counseling.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Academic Advising-Advise current and prospective SON students per unit and university policies and procedures. Work extensively with the KCTCS transfer office, other local universities to set appointments and high schools in Daviess County and surrounding counties to insure a smooth transfer process for prospective students to matriculation.
  • Unit Admissions Decisions-Audit upper division admissions applications (mid-program degree audits) for admissions committee by set deadlines. Interpret transfer course work as applies towards nursing degrees. Work cooperatively with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions regarding transfer equivalency reports, academic petitions, admissions of new students to university. Update student records in university system (Peoplesoft) with committee decisions. Communicate with students the admissions process and decisions as appropriate. Provide application and admission workshops for students.
  • Student Orientations-Provide orientation to new upper division nursing students. Create and deliver appropriate presentation materials.
  • Retention-Monitor progress of students towards degree progression. Provide advising for transfer student populations. Provide statistical information for reports when requested.
  • Recruitment and Special Events-meet with prospective students; attend recruitment events to represent the School of Nursing. Presenter at appropriate events. Assist with editing recruitment materials used for the nursing students including handouts, brochures, and website.
