Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Undergraduate Student Services, the Academic and Career Advisor supports and guides undergraduate students in both academic and career development. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, project management expertise, and proficiency in relevant software applications.

Essential Functions

Academic Advising

  • Advise caseload of undergraduate students in BSBA, Economics and Business and Engineering about the development of academic and professional options. 
  • Perform necessary registration duties including freshmen block scheduling, course overrides, AP credit and transfer credit application.
  • Perform degree clearing and commencement activities.
  • Serve as instructor for UNIV 101 (The LeBow Freshmen Experience).
  • Operation of Banner and Hyperion software related to undergraduate students, curricula and related matters, for example SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Career Services and Student Engagement

  • Facilitate and continuously update content for a career workshop series focusing on resume writing, job searching, interviewing, networking, and salary negotiation. Assist in securing employer representatives to sponsor relevant workshops.
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of company site visits by maintaining registration, planning logistics and travel, communicating with host companies, and utilizing College and University resources to market and promote visits to LeBow students
  • Assist in the management of career capstone course (UNIV B201), including teaching up to two sections of the course each term.

Supporting College Operations

  • Work closely with Director and Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs in recruitment efforts, including participation in Open House and Accepted Student Days, credit evaluations, anti-melt initiatives and student orientations.
  • Encourage and support student engagement initiatives, including but not limited to DSAB, Peer Leaders, Learning Communities, Liberty Scholars, and student organization activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Education, Counseling, other Business-related degree or Equivalent
  • 1-2 years of related job experience in advising, undergraduate programs/student life, admissions and/or recruiting, teaching and/or coaching.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends, as related to essential duties.
  • Demonstrated flexibility with respect to university and college evolving policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle exceptions to processes and work assignments with professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Professional work appearance and interactions with others.    
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to outstanding concern and service to customers (students, faculty and staff).
  • Demonstrated excellence at planning and organizing own work and records as well as coordinating with related parties and seeking tasks through to a timely and successful conclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree preferred Higher Education, Education, Counseling, or Business-related degree
  • Proficiency with PCs and related software.
  • Experience with Banner, Hyperion, Blackboard, meeting software.

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120 to $61,680 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
