Department Summary
The College of Information Advising office serves students in bachelor’s and master’s programs within the UNT College of Information. These students are enrolled in programs with the departments of Information Science, Learning Technologies and Linguistics. Our office works very closely with these departments to best meet the needs of their enrolled students.
Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to effectively advise undergraduate and master’s level graduate students on their degree and program requirements as well as provide support to academic departments, lead or develop student-focused initiatives, and contribute to the success and mission of the College of Information.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of complex computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and lead project teams effectively.
  • Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
* Familiarity with UNT Systems, like EIS, Navigate, Perceptive Content.
* Knowledge of the College of Information and it’s policies.
* Experience advising undergraduate or graduate students.

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with some weekends as needed.

Job Duties


o
Advises students on degree, program, graduate school, and university requirements, policies, and procedures in appointments and through email communication.
o
Reviews and approves the processing of student course requests. Completes other administrative tasks as needed, like signing forms for various offices on-campus.
o
Works with department faculty, staff, and administrators on academic policy issues and student concerns, providing information on academic catalog, graduate school policies, and university requirements.
o
Develops and supports student-focused and advising office initiatives and online Canvas course.
o
Assists with the training and supervision of student assistants on special projects, 
enrollment procedures and policies, and student/program questions.
o
Partners with and/or refers students to other university resources to resolve conflicts 
(C.A.R.E. team, Dean of Students) or provide enhanced student services (Career Center).
o
Assists with undergraduate or graduate commencement, participates/represents in events 
(tabling), and serves on committees as requested by supervisor.
