Primary Purpose of Department
The CCI Advising Center was created to serve Computer Science majors exploring the different concentrations and departments in CCI. The CCI Advising Center consists of the Director of Advising, multiple professional advisors and several faculty/lecturer advisors. All advisors are responsible for assisting students in academic exploration, registration, and negotiating academic policies and resources.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Academic Advisor in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) provides advising services for undergraduate Computer Science majors, minors and students in transition (internal or external transfers). The advisor also serves as a resource for faculty, staff, and students in CCI with regard to academic policies.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Academic Advisor in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) will assume advising responsibilities for any University students declaring or expressing an interest in the Computer Science major. The advisor must have the ability to work autonomously in a complex, team-oriented academic office with significant advising case load. The advisor must have a commitment to student success and the ability to listen and analyze academic needs. The advisor must also relate well to faculty and staff and provide support to them as requested.
While not required to teach, Academic Advisors in CCI may be requested to coordinate and/or participate in seminars offered each year to students. In addition, the advisor fulfills other responsibilities as needed and assigned by the Director of Academic Advising and Student Success.

Minimum Education/Experience
  • Masters Degree required or obtained before start date
  • At least 2 years experience in higher education setting required
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Masters Degree in Higher Education or Counseling preferred.
  • Two years direct student advising experience preferred.
