The College of Science seeks an academic advising professional who will contribute to exemplary advising services for Computational Science undergraduate students at the Purdue Indianapolis Location (PIN). The announcement of the ‘Purdue Computes’ initiative makes this position an exciting opportunity to advise and mentor Computer Science, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence undergraduates as they test their limits and take the next giant leap in the computational sciences.
College of Science advising is predicated on the belief that individualized relationships set the stage for student success and high advisor impact and satisfaction. As an Academic Advisor you will promote an inclusive environment that challenges and supports students by providing meaningful opportunities for student learning, development, and integration of curricular and co-curricular experiences. Advisors empower students to be active, responsible learners while guiding students to make well-informed decisions that lead to achieving students' educational, career, and life goals.
In the role of an Academic Advisor, you will:
- Create an open and respectful environment in where students of diverse backgrounds and interests feel comfortable exploring and defining their goals and curricular pathways
- Empower students to be active, responsible learners and assist them in making well-informed decisions
- Guide students in course selection and the process of registering for courses
- Identify campus activities and program opportunities related to students' major
- Maintain a consistent pattern of contact and communication with assigned students
- Use data to provide timely outreach to students on their academic progress and conduct audits on students’ degree progress
- Assess when a student’s situation requires referral to campus resources
- Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of student records
- Teach students about the university’s structure, systems, policies, and practices

This position has a starting salary of $46,000 annually commensurate with education and experience.
What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in higher education or related field
- One (1) year of student advising, recruitment, or other student-facing experience
Skills Needed:
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to:
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, current and prospective students, and parents, and families.
- Problem solve and utilize campus resources for individuals and groups
- Navigate a changing environment.
