Description

 

Provides information to, and advises both enrolled and prospective students regarding the academic programs offered by the University or a specific department, including requirements for admission and retention through graduation; may coordinate the work of entry level academic advisors.

  • Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding academic programs and curriculums.
  • Analyzes and processes degree plans, graduation applications, grade change forms, and general petitions.
  • Maintains student files updated throughout their academic careers and makes changes to records as necessary.
  • Analyzes and processes requests for readmission from academic suspension, as well as financial aid reinstatements; provides retention services for students on probation.
  • May assist in conducting orientation sessions for groups of incoming new students.
  • May assist in recruiting high school and community college students and may make presentations at special events.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelors and 3 years experience

    Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

    • This position is eligible for Alternative Work Arrangements (AWA) after a probationary period.

    The selected candidate will be required to (including but not limited to):

    • Manage a high work volume with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Advise students for an undergraduate accounting program.
      • This includes undergraduate BBA Accounting students enrolled in our 5-year Professional Program in Accountancy (PPA) and UH Extend students.
    • Processes academic forms and letters for an undergraduate accounting program.
      • The person selected for this position will also be responsible for assisting with data reporting related to the accounting major and minor.
    • Plan and execute events such as orientation, webinars, town halls, coffee chats, etc.
    • Serve as a lead for planning and executing our PPA Language of Business Orientation that occurs every Fall and Spring semester. This also includes (but is not limited to):
      • Bi-weekly (or weekly) virtual Coffee Chats for current and prospective PPA undergraduate students
      • Transitioning into MSACCY Q&A virtual events coordinated with MSACCY Admissions Advisor and the Administrative Director of Accounting Programs
      • Participating in events offered by Bauer’s Undergraduate Business Programs Office (UBP) such as Commencement Orientation, Graduation Express Check, etc.
    • Assist with recruiting high school and transfer students into BBA Accounting program. This includes in-person and virtual events.
    • Promote our accounting undergraduate certificate program(s). This includes (but is not limited to):
      • Planning and executing events
      • Participating in presentations to classes
      • Conducting presentations to student organizations
    • Promote the accounting major and minor to UH undergraduate students. This includes (but is not limited to):
      • Advising UH students considering declaring accounting as their major or minor
      • Participating in presentations to classes
      • Conducting presentations to student organizations
    • Assist with Bauer commencement each Fall and Spring semester.
      • Commencement takes a lot of staff to make the event run smoothly. The person selected for this position will volunteer to assist with undergraduate Bauer commencement ceremonies for each Fall and Spring semester. 
    • Occasional travel and special events may occur outside of the normal business working hours, including some Saturdays. As much advance notice as possible will be given.
    • Be adaptable to change, as constant improvements are being made in advising.

    The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm.
