Position Description:

The Speed School of Engineering is seeking an Academic Advisor II or III. The Academic Advisor II/III in the Speed School of Engineering is responsible for advising undergraduate and Master of Engineering (MEng) engineering students concerning curriculum selection, degree requirements, and university procedures and regulations. This position works with assigned students from admission through graduation and requires maintenance of detailed records on student progress within their academic program as well as the collection and assessment of data concerning guidance needs. When appropriate, the Academic Advisor will make referrals for tutoring, career guidance, and personal concerns. The position will be filled at the Academic Advisor II or Academic Advisor III level based on candidate qualifications.

Additionally, this position will also assist as needed with the planning and implementation of student success programming, including but not limited to outreach efforts, new student orientation, first year student support, and can serve as a liaison for Speed School on various committees across campus. This position reports to the Director of Advising and assists in additional office functions and other duties as assigned.

In addition to these duties listed above, if hired in at a level III (Academic Advisor), the position would also be expected to provide leadership on student success programming and/or training within the office. This position will assist the Director as needed with reports, training new Academic Counselors, and planning of Speed student orientation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Counsel individual students on degree requirements, policies and procedures, and academic opportunities.
  • Update and maintain student files.
  • Conduct enrollment and academic outreach.
  • Make referrals to campus services/persons as needed.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of student success programming.
  • Communicate/collaborate with Speed academic departments, co-op and career services, and other Speed departments.
  • Serve on various committees.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or a related field and 2+ years of higher education experience working with students within academic advising, academic counseling, and/or development of student programs that directly foster student success and persistence.

Target Compensation Maximum:

$61,200.00

Target Compensation Minimum:

$40,800.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
