Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling or a related field and one year of related experience. Additional experience may be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements. Pay Grade 4E (Salary)

Position Description:

The primary responsibility for this position will be to provide academic counseling and advising for currently enrolled and prospective students seeking an undergraduate degree from the College of Education and Human Development. The professional in this position will work closely with faculty and staff to build strong relationships and assist in retention initiatives. This role would involve using outreach, strategic programming, and liaising with campus partners to improve completion, retention, and ultimately graduation rates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The position responsibilities include:

  • Provide academic advising for prospective and current students seeking a degree while utilizing distance education classes.
  • Interpret College and University policies, procedures, and academic requirements.
  • Counsel students seeking programs in the College, including assessment of credentials and preparation of academic plans.
  • Participates in program meetings to enhance communication, develop, and promote advising initiatives, and provide guidance in curriculum changes.
  • Assist with recruitment activities.
  • Monitor admission, retention, and completion of undergraduate degree checks and assist with degree clearances.
  • Participate in professional organizations, training, College and University professional committees, and conferences.
  • Assists with preparation and production of current and prospective student programming and recruitment activities for undergraduate students.
  • Provides guidance to students on university processes and policies.
  • Builds and maintains a collaborative relationship with key campus partners such as the Office of Admission, Office of Adult and Transfer Services, Office of Military and Veteran Student Services, Financial Aid, and Athletics.
  • Collaborates with CEHD partners, including recruiters, career counselors, and graduate program directors, for systematic review of the College's enrollment management policies and practices for improvement based on data and trends identified in part by College leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred candidates will possess demonstrated organizational and communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, skills to work with students and faculty, and experience working with student related data.
  • Knowledge of prior learning assessment policies and procedures is beneficial. 
  • Must be knowledgeable in the use of PeopleSoft or other student tracking software
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or similar e-mail system. 
  • Knowledge of GradesFirst/EAB student tracking and management system is beneficial.
  • Cooperative team player in a diverse working environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple interruptions and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction.

Target Compensation Maximum:

$61,200.00

Target Compensation Minimum:

$40,800.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
