Job Summary
Advises Washkewicz College of Engineering (WCE) students on academic requirements, career options, and extracurricular opportunities. Monitors student academic and personal progress and employs intervention strategies as necessary. Establishes meaningful relationships with students, faculty, Cleveland State University (CSU) resources and the community.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Student Development, Business, Social Service, Engineering or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in higher education academic advising, or in a student services area of a college or university.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferably in Student Development, Business, Social Service, Engineering or related field.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in higher education academic advising, or in a student services area of a college or university.
  • Focused experience with or educational background in fields related to computer or data science or engineering.
  • Familiarity with engineering undergraduate programs.
  • Ability to present and/or teach.
  • Strong data analysis capability.
  • Working knowledge of technology applied to advising.
  • Experience in recruitment efforts
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member with faculty advisors, staff, and students.
  • Must be able to travel to off-campus events.
  • Ability to manage a large caseload of engineering students.
  • Ability to provide academic guidance to students of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Familiar with current trends in the college student personnel literature regarding academic advising.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to remain flexible, patient, and open-minded.
  • Ability to interpret student performance and progress using current data to establish academic success plans.
  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Peoplesoft, CampusNet, BlackBoard, OnBase and Starfish (or compatible software programs).
  • Professional and precise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to review for correctness of work.
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment with a consistent professional composure.
