Position Highlights The University of Arizona's College of Agriculture, Life & Environmental Sciences (CALES) is seeking enthusiastic candidates for the Student Career Support Strategies Specialist position based out of the Yuma campus. The primary purpose of this position is to develop, maintain, and grow the pipeline of students transferring from the regional community colleges; implement strategies, systems, processes, learning experiences, and networks that support students interested in career majors/emphasis in the nutritional sciences, ag systems management, sustainable plant systems, ag business, food safety, precision agriculture and biosystems engineering all of which are supported by USDA Collaboration Grant (SALUDABLES) and USDA Next Gen Grant (Learning to Lead). The Student Career Support Strategies Specialist serves as a frontline contact for the regional community college transfer students, driving engagement and empowering students to achieve their academic and career goals through the advising of students in identifying career choices and 100/200 level prerequisites, reducing barriers so they can smoothly and successfully integrate into the institution's environments to thrive personally and academically while tracking student data, career partners, and grant-directed expenses involved in these processes.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group career-related learning experiences for Imperial Valley College and Arizona Western College students intending to transfer to UA. 
  • Creates educational workshops and advising to further intellectual, social, and personal development related to major, career goals and outcomes., and pre-UA academic plan ensuring students are prepared for transfer into their selected UA degree program. 
  • Support student-applied learning experiences and other activities, increasing self and career exploration and readiness for transfer.
  • Provides coordination and general support for student outreach, workshops, and/or direct recruitment activities.
  • Participate and lead STEAM Summer Residential Programs and Ag Discovery Camp.
  • Participate and lead Community College to University Mentorship Program.
  • Have direct contact with students through advising appointments, drop-ins, phone, and email.
  • Once a student transfers to UA, advise the students declaring majors, with emphasis supported by the two USDA grants affiliated with CALES units represented at the Yuma campus.
  • Collaborate with college general advisors with major exploration for students interested in CALES's disciplines and advise students with academic eligibility statuses.
  • Provide backup advising support to other CALES colleagues at the Yuma campus as needed.
  • Participate and help lead the Scholars Leadership Training through annual retreats. 
  • Monitor students' academic progress, determine satisfactory progress toward a degree, and assist students in completion.
  • Use university systems to maintain the student transfer pipeline, student files, records, and advisor notes. 
  • Support CALES Success courses and workshops to support UA students.
  • Participates in program development and grant management for the USDA grants. (ie. scholarships, experiential learning, and outreach and engagement.)
  • Trains and manages the UA student worker interns who support the grant efforts.
  • Track and manage scholarships/internships and other experiential learning for the learning communities of students by academic cohorts and majors involved in the USDA grants.
  • Track student outcomes/participation for USDA grant reporting through quantitative and qualitative methods (i.e., number of outreach participants, students transferred to UA, students retained and completed). 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level expereince required.  Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
