Job Summary 
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Academic Advisement Coordinator is a key member of the Dean’s Office team and manages crucial aspects of academic advisement of incoming students and office operations by coordinating approaches for the holistic advisement and transition of incoming first year, incoming transfer, and continuing student populations as well as program application processes within the CNHP.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Orientation: Serves as lead liaison with Office of Orientation and Transition Programs and coordinates CNHP involvement in Orientation events. Collaborate with relevant offices to ensure efficient and accurate transfer credit posting. Oversee new student academic advising and registration. Continuously assess and improve processes related to advisement and registration for incoming students.
  • Advising: Maintain reduced caseload of students for academic advisement.
  • Operations: Supervise Academic Advising efforts, including developing & implementing protocol for efficient office operations and quality academic advisement. Conduct continuous evaluation and improvement of advisement operations through assessment (e.g., student advisement experience, utilization of services, & quality advising documentation). Assist Dean in managing the day-to-day operation of Academic Advisement including staff hiring, onboarding, and scheduling.
  • Outreach: Pursue up-to-date knowledge of policy and curriculum changes at all levels and disseminate CNHP and general advisement updates to stakeholders through supervision of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and attendance at College Curriculum Committee meetings. Disseminate updates to advisement staff and plan related professional development as needed. Coordinate College Academic Advisement representation for events and presentations with campus partners. Develop and coordinate routine communication templates for academic advisers and other staff to use with students.
  • Advisor Assignment: Collaborate with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and academic advisors to ensure all incoming students are promptly assigned advisors in SOAR. Manage academic advisor caseloads with regard to balanced workload distribution. Coordinate advisor assignments during transitions such as student major change and staff leave. Lead regular team advisement team meetings.
  • Program Application Process: Assist programs with application process as appropriate, which may include collecting, evaluating, and collating applications in preparation for programmatic review.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications  
    Bachelor’s degree in higher education, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university and two years’ experience as academic advisor in higher education.

     


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Ability to work collaboratively with campus partners in coordinating academic advisement efforts and carrying out retention initiatives.
    • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts for budgetary and expense reporting.
    • Ability to train, advise, oversee, and mentor student workers and graduate assistants.
    • Ability to work occasional evening events or overnight travel related to the execution of office initiatives.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills
    • Excellent organization and communication skills.

     
    Preferred Qualifications  
    Experience in supervision or mentorship of professional staff. Clear commitment to fostering student persistence. Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in a higher education environment. Extensive experience with relevant technology (Peoplesoft/SOAR, Microsoft 365, Zoom, Maxient, Mongoose, Dropout Detective, MyMajors, etc.). Data analysis and statistical skills relevant to assessment practices.
