Job Description

Laurel Ridge Community College seeks an engaging and creative instructor for a full-time faculty position (9-month position) to provide leadership and instruction for the health information management. Typical workloads for full time faculty are normally 15 credit hours per semester with 10 student engagement hours required each week. Faculty members are also required to collaborate with others (full and part-time instructors and administrators) to ensure teaching uniformity and continuity of course material and expectations. Based at the Middletown campus, the successful candidate will collaborate in the development of new course curriculum, degrees, certificates, and training as appropriate that align with the direction of the Health Information Management program and the School of Professional Programs. The candidate will strengthen
and expand relationships and partnerships with K-12, higher education, industry, and community
organizations in support of the college mission, vision, and values. Laurel Ridge is looking for a faculty member with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in service, innovation, student success, and integrity in the performance of job duties. The candidate may be assigned to
teach in traditional and non-traditional settings, including face-to-face, hybrid, dual enrollment, or online courses, which may be in a variety of lengths, as well as daytime, evenings, weekends, or at any of the Laurel Ridge locations. Additional duties include advising, recruiting, service on college committees, and working as part of a faculty team to complete the requirements of CAHIIM accreditation.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for the position is $48,263 to $94,806, per year, however, actual starting salary will commensurate with education and/or experience. The position is a 9 month faculty role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s in health information management or related field OR Associate’s in Health Information Management or related field. Qualifying degrees and coursework must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time experience in Health Information Management.
  • AHIMA credential in RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), or other AHIMA coding credential.
Additional Considerations
  • Master’s degree in health information management or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated ICD-10-CM/PCS experience.
  • Experience with college-level teaching or training and instruction in the health information management field.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach using technology in the classroom and/or online course delivery.
  • Experience using electronic medical records.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes and CAHIIM accreditation standards.

Required Travel
Travel as per any required duties of the position, such as to sites/campuses and any training. Ability to cover assignments throughout the college service region as necessary for the job is required.
