416878 Postdoctoral Associate- Cosmological Physics & Advanced Computing / Computing, Environment, and Life Sciences

Updated: 4 months ago
Location: Lemont, ILLINOIS
Deadline: 15 Jan 2024

Applications are invited for up to two postdoctoral positions in the Cosmological Physics and Advanced Computing (CPAC) Group in Argonne National Laboratory’s High Energy Physics (HEP) Division (https://cpac.hep.anl.gov/ ). The successful applicants will join a new project in collaboration with Argonne’s Computing, Environment, and Life Sciences (CELS) Directorate, focused on an effort to make large simulation datasets available to the cosmology community. The project will enable the sharing and analysis of cosmological simulation datasets and at the same time will allow for different levels of interactions with the data, from simple searches and downloading capabilities, to interactive queries and processing. As part of the position, new large-scale analysis tools will be developed, and data-sharing infrastructure will be built. There will be opportunities to carry out science projects with the simulations as well. These are some of the largest simulations currently available, ranging from gravity-only to full hydrodynamics simulations.

Postdocs can benefit from strong collaborations with applied mathematicians, computer scientists, and statisticians; they will also have access to world-leading supercomputing resources. Interactions with research groups at Fermilab, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern University are highly encouraged.
