Hourly rate:                                 $23-$25/hour estimated starting pay rate

Primary Location:           Anoka County (Andover) 

Secondary Location: Hennepin County (flexible space in Eden Prairie or Minneapolis)

ABOUT THIS POSITION

This 4-H Program Associate position will lead, manage and steward portions of the Anoka County 4-H program under the guidance of the 4-H Extension Educator. The role will also guide the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) grant focused work in Hennepin County 4-H.

This 4-H Program Associate position will lead, manage and steward portions of the Anoka County 4-H program under the guidance of the 4-H Extension Educator. The role will also guide the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) grant focused work in Hennepin County 4-H. 

This is a temporary-posted position to begin in February 2024 and will end no later than September 25, 2025. The primary office location will be at the Anoka County Extension Office in Andover, MN. The secondary office location will be flexible and options include Hennepin County Extension Office in Eden Prairie, or the Robert J. Jones Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC) in Minneapolis.

Anoka County 4-H program 

  • Ensure the summer and site-based programs are moving toward the statewide 4-H program outcomes. 
  • Guide budget development and accountability process for the summer and site-based programs 
  • Implement and evaluate programs, in conjunction with volunteers and staff, to advance the goals of the program in the county. 
  • Use research-based curriculum to create and implement learning opportunities in a variety of settings. 
  • Build relationships with partners (youth, volunteers, interns, businesses, community-based organizations) to help advance 4-H program goals.
  • Recruit, place, train and coach volunteers in management and delivery roles which support the 4-H Youth Development Program 
  • Ensure effective communication to families and stakeholders. 
  • Promote and market the 4-H youth development program. 
  • Follow and implement University of Minnesota, Extension, and Minnesota 4-H Youth Development policies and practices, including financial and risk management. 

 

Coordination of NOAA grant efforts for Hennepin County 4-H

  • Serve as the primary programmatic lead for the Climate Youth Labs NOAA grant, including recruiting and hiring the staff, helping design high-quality learning programs and coordinating the project activities, under the direction of the Extension Educator. 
  • Lead a pilot school group in Climate Youth Labs NOAA programs for 10 youth (ages 11-14) during the 2023-24 academic year (spring semester 2024) that includes Supporting two 4-H middle school-aged groups of youth in existing 4-H programs in Minneapolis (Franklin and Sandford MS) to learn about climate change and resiliency activities. 
  • Attend monthly Climate Youth Labs NOAA meetings, attend training to support youth learning about climate change in their community.
  • Support the evaluation of programs by the independent evaluator.
  • Disseminate and promote youth-led podcasts and project findings.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in a direct youth development organization (as a member, volunteer, leader, paid staff member, or some combination) OR a combination or education and related experience to equal six (6) years. 
  • Experience coordinating events and educational activities. 
  • Experience working with clientele both face-to-face and on the phone.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, excel, etc), e-mail, and Internet browsers.
  • Proficient in oral and written English communication skills
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse and historically marginalized audiences. 

Additional Requirements:


  • Work within an office as well as in various educational settings.
  • Valid driver's license and own means of transportation with required liability insurance. Must be able to travel several times per week and regionally/statewide multiple times per year. Reimbursement for travel and subsistence is available in accordance with University policy.
  • Must be able to travel within the designated communities and provide in-person programming.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional evening or weekend work.
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, and lift or carry 10 pounds frequently and 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to stand for 90 minutes at a time and sit for 90 minutes at a time. Some days will require hours of standing or sitting.
  • When not in the assigned office location, employees must be reachable with a mobile number at the employee's own expense.
  • This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Degree and/or experience in education, sociology, youth development, or related field. 
  • Program development, teaching and evaluation skills. 
  • Experience working with volunteers. 
  • Experience working with grants or grant funded programs.
  • Basic understanding of youth development principles. 
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the field of climate change, climate justice and climate resilience.
