OPS Research Assistant

Job Description:

The Department of Epidemiology, jointly situated in the College of Public Health and Health Professions and the College of Medicine, at the University of Florida is looking to hire a full-time research assistant. The Research Assistant will run the day-to-day operations of a recent NIH funded R01 project (R01AG071729)—the Study on Medical marijuana and Its Long-term Effects (SMILE) under the supervision of the study PI and the study research coordinator. Main responsibilities include participant recruitment, consent, data collection, data management, and participant incentive distribution. 


Assist with study surveys and study visits:

• Follow study procedures as described in the protocol
• Help prepare materials and supplies needed for survey administration
• Contact, screen, and consent participants into the study (enroll 2-3 participants per week)
• Collect data through survey interviews, smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) app, wearable sensor (Fitbit), and other assessments (e.g., cognitive test, pain sensory test)
• Help enter and manage research data in the REDCap system
• Organize study related documents
• Assist with IRB regulatory process
• Maintain contact with participants to ensure the completion of quarterly EMA/Fitbit assessments and the
12- month follow-up
• Monitor data quality from EMA/Fitbit and contact participants to resolve issues if needed
• Complete other research related tasks such as maintaining recruitment log and storing study documents
• Distribute participant incentives appropriately

Participate in overall research team activities:

• Participate in trainings to gain additional skills and knowledge related to clinical research
• Maintain adherence to IRB protocols and study procedures
• Other duties as assigned by the PI and coordinators, e.g., attending and participating in team meetings


Expected Salary:

$16-$25 per hour; based on experience and qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.


Preferred Qualifications:

Excels in a team environment.

Ability to work effectively and independently.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Schedule: Full-time up to 40 hours per week between the hours of 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday.
