JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


We are seeking a passionate, creative Mechanical Engineer to join our Vehicle Investigation and Cybersecurity Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University (PSU). ARL/PSU’s purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities engineering and technology needs. The ideal candidate will have experience with SolidWorks and structural design. The successful candidate will work as part of a team designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems and components, as well as providing technical support to other team members and sponsors. This will evolve working in agile teams in an exploratory research & development environment.

You will:

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers to design, develop, and test mechanical or aerospace components and systems
  • 3D model and draft new product designs
  • Contribute to the development of prototypes using 3D printing technologies
  • Conduct performance and feasibility analyses on new designs and materials
  • Participate in the entire product lifecycle, from concept to production
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation, including design specifications and manuals

Minimally requires a Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline. A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.

Requirements include:

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing, water jetting and laser cutting technologies
  • Basic understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes.
