Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX seeks a 3D artist and teacher to join the 3D Animation & Game Design program within the School of Media and Design. Primary areas of expertise should be modeling, texturing, environmental modeling, rendering, and game level design. This is a full-time (non-tenure track) position as Instructor or Assistant Professor of Practice (depending on qualifications) beginning fall 2024. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. Essential Functions
  • Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the respective program.
  • Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi.
  • Prepare and deliver consistent, interactive undergraduate course lectures in UX/UI and interactive design which align with curriculum goals.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
  • Prepare timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses.
  • Advise and mentor students; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
  • Provide service to the respective department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  • Adhere to UIW policies and procedures as identified in Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Expertise and the ability to teach 3D modeling, digital sculpting, UV mapping, texture painting, film rendering, and game design techniques within the 3D Animation & Game Design Curriculum.
  • Expert level and ability to teach Maya, RedShift, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Unity, Unreal, and ZBrush.
  • Effective instructional delivery.
  • Proficiency in or ability to learn and effectively use instructional technology.
  • Ability to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
BA/BS/BFA in 3D modeling, game art, game design, or a related field.
Required Work Experience
Instructor (Non-tenure track)
  • No experience required.

Assistant Professor of Practice (Non tenure-track)
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of industry experience and/or a record of significant professional accomplishment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive industry experience and the ability to convey industry expectations to students.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with interest and experience in teaching a diverse population of students and bringing a knowledge of professional 3D animation and/or game design pipeline production to the classroom.
  • A passion for student empowerment and success is key to our approach.
