Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking nominations and applications for Chair of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The College has embarked on building a first-of-its-kind veterinary learning health care system that will create exciting opportunities for real world discovery and clinical advancements. As an innovative leader, the new Chair will have the exciting opportunity to contribute towards this mission by developing cross-cutting programs in immunology, infectious diseases, emerging pathogens, and vaccine development and therapeutics.  Notably, CVM offers a unique ability to bridge veterinary and human medical sciences with a strong emphasis on One Health.

As the chief administrative officer, the Chair will have overall responsibility for the department including (1) recruitment, mentoring and promotion of faculty, (2) management of departmental budgets, (3) coordination of departmental instructional activities in both the graduate and professional veterinary programs and (4) provision of strong leadership in research, teaching and applicable service activities. In addition, the Chair is expected to serve as the primary departmental liaison with the scientific community in the UF Health Science Center, the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, as well as other UF campus units and the state of Florida at large.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is part of the University of Florida Health Science Center which houses six health related colleges (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health & Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine). It is the only health science center in the southeast, and one of only three nationally, where all six colleges of health are located on the same campus. The CVM has equally strong ties to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Together, these alliances create opportunities for vibrant research collaborations that are fostered through campus-wide research institutes and centers , including the  Emerging Pathogens Institute , Clinical Translational Science Institute , One Health Center of Excellence ,  Artificial Intelligence , Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research many others. Expected Salary:

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the candidate.

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered, applicants must have an earned doctorate (DVM, PhD, MD, or equivalent professional degree).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in academic leadership is highly desirable.

Documented experience in team building, university instruction, strong organizational and communication skills as well as a commitment to fostering an environment of community, collegiality, and equal opportunity is necessary.

he candidate must have an active and strong record of extramurally funded research, with the potential to collaborate and enhance departmental programs.
