The Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applicants for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Engineer. The Associate Engineer will participate in course design, instruction, and related educational effectiveness research of undergraduate and graduate courses in Nuclear Engineering. The Associate Engineer will be placed in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering and work with faculty in the design of course content to meet student learning outcome needs. This faculty member will be encouraged to employ innovate teaching methods, adaptive learning, online course delivery, paperless classrooms, and other pedagogical methods for effective learning of programming languages.
Teaching, revising and developing undergraduate and graduate level courses; Assignments will include (but is not limited to): Introduction to Nuclear Engineering, Fundamentals of Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Thermal Hydraulics, Nuclear Engineering Senior Capstone Design courses, Advanced Reactor Concepts, and Reactor Systems. Courses may include on-line as well as face-to-face instruction. In addition, there may be other service and teaching activities as directed by the department chair.
The Associate Engineer will also serve as the Undergraduate and Graduate Coordinator for the Nuclear Engineering Program, and serve as the Undergraduate ABET and SACS Coordinator for the department. The Associate Engineer may also participate on programmatic committees.
The Associate Engineer may also contribute to research within the department through proposal development with other faculty members in the Department and the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering. The Associate Engineer may also contribute to the University of Florida Training Reactor by participating on the Reactor Safety Review Subcommittee.
The Associate Engineer will be encouraged to contribute to scholarly journal publications, presentations, and professional society meetings related to STEM education.This position reports directly to Department Chair for Materials Science and Engineering. This should require minimal supervision and is expected to complete directive as per supervisor independent of direct oversight.
$85,000 - $100,000 - Commensurate with qualifications and experience
PhD in Nuclear Engineering or related discipline
|Preferred Qualifications:||Preferred Experience in some or all of the following: education within nuclear engineering or closely related field; course design and instruction within nuclear engineering or closely related engineering undergraduate courses; professional qualifications within engineering education and/or research experience into pedagogy, teaching and learning within engineering. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.|
