Research Assistant Scientist
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Florida is seeking a non-tenure track, full-time, 75% research position at the level of Research Assistant Scientist to work in the laboratory of Dr. Josephine Allen. The incumbent will play a significant role in the performance of leading investigations of space biology. Multiple projects may be assigned in accordance with the needs of the laboratory. High level of independence is required. The chosen candidate will be expected to process and analyze large data sets, including, but not limited to, microarray, transcriptomics analysis and RNA-seq gene expression data. The ability to design and conduct ground based and space flight ready experiments is required. Independent writing and publishing research papers is expected.
Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and team work. Candidates should have a record of peer-refereed publications and outstanding scholarly achievement and activities within the space biology research area, including skills in molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, gene and protein expression, large scale gene expression data analysis, and utilization of various bioinformatics and microgravity bioreactor tools.

PhD and 5+ years post-doctoral experience in molecular biology within the space biology research area.
|Preferred Qualifications:||Particular emphasis will be on candidates with prior space flight experience aboard the ISS. In addition, experience in omics analysis is highly desirable. Previous and demonstrated ability to advise graduate students, pre-doctoral students, postdoctoral associates and lab staff of different backgrounds is desirable.|
