Research Coordinator II

Oversee and coordinate all diving activity supported by the lab, including the safe deployment, maintenance and recovery of sea floor mounted instrumentation. Design and fabricate devices and equipment, including configuring data acquisition systems. Supervise others in equipment design and construction, and advise students, faculty and staff on methods and procedures. Coordinate and schedule work and testing as requested by faculty.  Compare and purchase materials and schedule work efforts by students, staff and outside vendors and contractors.
Work with faculty on research proposals and faculty, staff and students with the design of instruments and observational platforms.  Prepare estimates for instruments.  Fill out paperwork for salaries, completion times and total expenses. Plan and coordinate research and instructional activities.  The position will also include training others in the use and operation of research equipment.
Supervising UF’s personnel in operations and experiments, including hydrographic and bathymetric surveying, operation of vessels, scuba diving operations, ocean instrumentation deployment and recovery, and navigation and positioning at sea. Ensure that diving personnel are compliant with the university’s certification requirements. Review all dive plans before they are submitted to the University’s dive safety officer. Maintain inspection and maintenance records for all dive equipment and vessels stored at the coastal lab facility. Apply for permits required by state and federal agencies for operations and structures in navigable waters.

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience in some or all of the following: programming, deploying, maintaining instrumentation, writing and updating standard operating procedures, vessel operations; heavy machine operator (bobcat, forklift, backhoe); steel and wood frame fabrication; a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code for compliance in electrical work; and knowledge of plumbing and water pumps, and a working knowledge of engines, motors, and power tools, and machining equipment; knowledge of material strength for safety in rigging and lifting, and the accepted methods and procedures of coastal ocean field operations; also training in the handling of hazardous waste, and in acceptable safety procedures.
