The Lastinger Center for Learning is currently seeking a highly motivated Student Assistant to join our New Worlds Reading Initiative team. In this role, you will assist with various tasks including portraying specific costume character roles: Clifford, the Big Red Dog and Fly Guy for family engagement events throughout the state of Florida. The ideal candidate is available to travel, able to work in hot, confining heavy costume with limited range of vision covering your head, of a specific height due to costume requirements.

Job Duties:

• Portraying specific costume character role - Clifford, the Big Red Dog and Fly Guy
• Communicating non-verbally with event guests
• Posing for photos with event guests and staff
• May perform freestyle dancing at events
• While in costume - No talking, no pictures with other characters, and no inappropriate behavior
• Assist with event set up as needed
• Assist with event tear down as needed

Work schedule will vary dependent on planned events.
Travel (including overnight) will be required as needed, and funded by the UF Lastinger Center

$20.00/ hr.

• This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.

• Ability to work in hot, confining, heavy costume with limited range of vision covering your head
• Due to costuming requirements, special consideration will be given to individuals:
  • Clifford: 5’6 to 5’10” between 120-150 lbs
  • Fly Guy: 5’6” to 5’8” and average build

• Willingness to work at different locations in Florida, including outdoor locations
• Previous experience
• Comfort with wearing a costume
• Patience working with crowds and individuals
• Reliability and punctuality
