Description of Work Unit
The Office of Engagement and Extension (OEE) was organized in 2006 to advance CSU’s engagement and outreach missions. OEE includes CSU Extension, CSU Extended Campus (including CSU Online), the Colorado Water Center and a variety of vibrant programs that engage the teaching, research, extension, and service missions of Colorado State University. The Vice President for Engagement and Extension (VPEE) is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for the division, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. OEE works collaboratively across all Colleges and offices on campus, and has strong engagement programs throughout Colorado, the Western US and globally. At any given time, OEE includes over 400 employees. The total of budgets is approximately $85 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. Propelled by OEE’s leadership, nationally CSU is a Carnegie Engaged University (2008, 2014), is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium, is an APLU Innovation and Economic Prosperity University (2016) and is highly ranked for its online degree programs. Annually, CSU Extended Campus garners enrollments of over 10,000 learners and CSU Extension delivers approximately 500,000 educational contacts.

Position Summary
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is a member of the Office of Engagement & Extension Marketing and Communications team. This position is a generalist and may focus in a single channel to develop and expand experiences. The specialist creates content including design, campaigns, and featured stories for traditional print and online channels including web, social, email under the guidance of and direction by department managers and leaders. Specialists also manage channels including print, social media, email, websites, intranet, and other supporting platforms, and support development of communications and marketing plans and reports.
The day-to-day role of this position will include a focus on developing, implementing and overseeing advertising campaigns, including digital and print strategies; creating and testing new creative; tracking and analyzing metrics of campaign performance; identifying and implementing creative approaches for enhancing audience reach and engagement; and ensuring alignment with CSU/OEE brand guidelines.
This position supports our overall department aims: to support development of quality programming that meets learner/community needs; to enable access and expanded reach; to increase awareness; to position and align OEE and CSU brands; to nurture relationships, partnerships and prospective learners; and to share stories of impact across Colorado and beyond.
The primary office location for this position is in Fort Collins, CO. This position qualifies for hybrid/in-office work.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Completed bachelor’s degree in Communication, English, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • Two plus years’ experience in Marketing and Communications work.
  • Experience creating and editing copy for multiple audiences and across multiple platforms (traditional and online).
  • Experience supporting the development of marketing and communications plans.
  • Understanding of Marketing and Communications channels, platforms and tactics to assess, reach and engage a broad array of audiences.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office and industry software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), WordPress and Canva.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in digital (such as Facebook and Instagram), print and radio advertising placement and campaign development.
  • Experience with analytics and internal reporting tools to collect and analyze relevant data, and to determine the effectiveness of communications and collateral in meeting the identified communication goals and objectives.
  • Understanding of and experience with Marketing and Communications channels, reporting and metrics.
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity through inclusive design and language.
  • Experience in coaching partners in communications and marketing strategies.
