Do you love making people welcome?

The Whipple Museum of the History of Science is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Visitor Services Assistant to help us expand and improve our visitor offer. As the first point of contact for visitors, you'll be a great communicator and excited about helping everyone feel welcome in the museum space. You'll enjoy multitasking and getting stuck into the work of a small and busy team.

The Whipple Museum of the History of Science houses a world-class collection of over 10,000 historic artefacts, of which around 1,000 are on public display. It has been nationally designated for its pre -eminence and it plays a vital role in the teaching and research of the Department of History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) and is regularly used for both undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as by academics, researchers, visiting scholars and members of the public.

This is a great time to join the Whipple, as we seek to expand and improve our visitor offer. The Museum currently welcomes around 16,000 visitors a year, and is open weekday afternoons from 12.30pm to 4.30pm. The Visitor Services Assistant will play an important role in our ambitions to significantly grow visitor numbers and open one Saturday a month from the Spring of 2024.

The Visitor Services Assistant is the first point of contact for visitors. Their role is to open and close the galleries, welcome and supervise visitors during opening hours, provide a security presence in the galleries, run the Museum's on-gallery retail offer. They also provide vital support to the running of the Museum with communications and administration, and assist the Learning Coordinator with a varied programme of events and learning activities.
