University Language Teacher in French

Part time (0.45 FTE), open ended contract

£45,585 to £54,395 per annum pro rata.

Loughborough University’s Language Centre team of 12 teachers delivers credit-bearing modules and extra-curricular courses to non-specialist students from across the University in French, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, from beginner through to degree level. Our dynamic small-group teaching receives high levels of positive feedback from students, and we are always seeking to improve and evolve.

We are currently seeking a part-time experienced professional educator who will become the third member of the French teaching team.

Applicants to this post will be native or near native speakers of French with a first-hand experience of at least one French-speaking culture, a solid pedagogical competence, and a commitment to delivering stimulating classes that engage students, actively helping them to achieve positive learning outcomes.

You should have prior experience of successfully leading and delivering courses in Higher Education and be able to demonstrate that you have developed new approaches to teaching, assessment and feedback in response to needs identified within your student groups. You will have experience of reviewing practices and materials to ensure they are equitable, accessible and inclusive.

Continuous Professional Development is an essential element of the Language Centre’s ethos, and you need to be able to demonstrate that you have sought out opportunities to update your skills, keep abreast of new developments in teaching, and ideally shared new skills, practices or ideas with colleagues and students.

The bulk of our teaching currently takes place weekly on Thursdays and Fridays during University semesters, and you will need to be available on both those days in 2024-25 (see https://www.lboro.ac.uk/students/welcome/when-you-get-here/term-dates/ ). We adjust to childcare timetabling requirements, when it is possible to do so and still fulfil our duty to our students.

You will work around 720 hours per year, including around 7 hours of teaching per week. This can vary depending on the type of duty you are undertaking; patterns of delivery could also change in future.

For more information refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Yvonne Cornejo, Language Centre Manager, by email at [email protected] . You can leave contact details and availability if you prefer a phone or video call.

Closing date for receipt of applications is: Sunday 3rd March 2024

Interviews will be held: Monday 29th April and Tuesday 30th April 2024
