Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc, you will complement the research team at the research platform "Institute for Ethics and Law in Medicine" and take over tasks like, e.g., collecting, evaluating, and interpreting quantitative as well as qualitative data.

The focus of our research is currently placed on the issue of Assisted Suicide, which among other topics will also be one of your first main areas of research.

Our team consists of professors from a diverse range of scientific expertise, several (external) scientific associates, one university assistant prae doc, two student assistants and two administrative colleagues.

What is particularly important to us as a team is committed cooperation, enthusiasm for current research projects, and continuous collegial exchange.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching, and administration within the research profile of the Institute for Ethics and Law in Medicine, which means:

  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of medical ethics and medical law, particulary within a research project on the issue of Assisted Suicide that has already been launched.
  • You take part in the publication of scientific articles and deliver talks.
  • You hold seminars/lectures independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. Accordingly, you also undertake counselling duties for students and administer exams.
  • We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion.
  • You take on administrative as well as organisational tasks in research, teaching, and administration. This includes the acquisition of third-party funding.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Protestant or Catholic Theology, Sociology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Psychology, Nursing Science, Law, Political Science, or similar.
  • Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods: (practical) experience in quantitative as well as qualitative research and data processing (incl. statistics, etc.) is indispensable.
  • IT user skills, e.g., Microsoft Office and internet skills, as well as good command of relevant data analysis software such as SPSS, R, MAXQDA, Atlas.ti, Stata, JASP, or similar.
  • The working language will be German; excellent procifiency (level C1) in both active and passive language skills is thus required.
  • Didactic competences and experience with e-learning would be desireable; you are however explicitely invited to make use of the ample opportunities for internal further trainining.

Fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 3277,30 (on a full-time basis) increases if we can credit professional experience (see collective bargaining agreement).

Duration of contract: The employment duration is currently limited until 31 December, 2026. There is, however, the option for an extension of the contract.
