About the role

We invite applications for the post of Transplant Technician to support the collection of data and samples for the Oxford Transplant Biobank (OTB) and Quality in Organ Donation (QUOD) national biobank, along with the various transplant research programmes they support. The role of Transplant Technician is vital to our success.

You will have the opportunity to work in cutting-edge research and to contribute to long-term patient benefit. The Transplant Technicians will be required to coordinate in a joint team effort a 24/7 on-call rota. When called, you must be available at short notice to either travel to the Churchill Hospital, Oxford to collect pre-specified patient samples and data in close cooperation with the transplant team, or to use online resources to assess sample suitability, and arrange for transport to the appropriate research programme.

There will be a remuneration of £315 per annum with an additional hourly rate for any transplant attended, or time spent dealing with research sample offers and arranging transport. Additionally, to the remuneration, you will receive certificates for all training provided and will be able to gain insights into a nationwide research project and gain experience in surgical procedures.

About you

You need to be highly reliable, motivated and able to work independently during procedures, but also a team player as part of our technician team. The ability to send and receive texts, WhatsApp messages or similar, make phone calls, and access the internet when on-call is essential for this post, as well as the ability to work overnight and at weekends. The Transplant Technicians will be employed on a variable hours basis and the roles are available until December 2024 in the first instance.
