It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required when necessary and in response to business needs. We’d expect this to be a minimum of two days per week. This role will at times necessitate out of hours work when business needs arise, which means living within reasonable travelling distance of the Walton Hall Campus.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Linux Systems Administrator to join us within the STEM Technical Services ‘Infrastructure Services’ team.

Prior knowledge of Linux would be helpful, but is not required, as full training will be given. The role will ultimately provide primarily Linux-based support for the faculty’s server and storage virtualisation estate, networking, backup, and monitoring.  

 Skills and experience

  • 2 years or more experience in an IT field.
  • An understanding of IT technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems installation, support, and maintenance.
