Job Summary

Imperial College London is seeking applications for two twelve-month OOPE Fellowships in Primary Care Medical Education starting August 2024, providing GP trainees with the unique opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in medical education.

Duties and responsibilities

They will be based within the multi-award winning Undergraduate Primary Care Education Unit, one of the largest of its kind in the UK. The team oversees the primary care modules in Phases 1 and 3 of the MBBS degree and contributes to the wider MBBS curriculum. The post holders will be immersed within all aspects of the team’s activities, including contributing to the undergraduate primary care curriculum and developing skills and experience in curriculum design, development, implementation, assessment and evaluation. They will have access to the team’s unique model of educational support and development through the eCoPs (educational communities of practice). The post holders will also have access to the department’s Medical Education Innovation and Research Centre (MEdIC), which aims to align medical education, community priorities and NHS workforce needs to impact positively on society.

The post holders will widen their experience and develop the foundations for a career in medical education. At the end of the post, they will have gained a wide range of educational skills in curriculum design, development, implementation and evaluation, which will equip them for undergraduate and postgraduate education roles after qualification. They will work closely with the Faculty Development Lead who will provide educational and pastoral support and supervision over the year. The post holders will be expected to participate generally in the Unit’s activities and may take on other duties relating to undergraduate primary care education in agreement with the Director of the Undergraduate Primary Care Education Unit.

Essential Criteria

  • Current GP trainee in any NHS England Healthcare Education Workforce region (previously Health Education England (HEE) completing ST2 at the end of July 2024
  • Current satisfactory ARCP outcome on application
  • Satisfactory ARCP on commencement of post confirming end of year ST2 sign off
  • Broad-based clinical experience to date
  • Demonstrable interest in medical education
  • Effective organisational, planning and administrative skills
  • Sound understanding of the organisation of general practice and current developments in primary care
