The University is delighted to offer four scholarships for male students from white backgrounds who are under-represented in higher education through The Howard Opportunities Programme, commencing study in September 2024. This transformative scholarship awards to the recipients £400 per month through their time at Bradford, with yearly inflationary increases.

This scholarship is made possible by the generous support of the Keith Howard Foundation (formerly the Emerald Foundation), established by the late Dr Keith Howard OBE in 2008. Dr Keith Howard OBE was a philanthropist, academic and businessman who was raised in West Yorkshire. Howard, who died in 2021, was a graduate of Bradford’s School of Management and began his academic career there. Together with a group of management colleagues, he formed Emerald Publishing in 1967. It has since grown into a global operation, with over 300 active academic journals and 250 books published every year. Throughout his life, Howard was passionate about his local community, and the Keith Howard Foundation today focusses on support of the arts, sports, social mobility, and animal welfare within the Yorkshire Region, underpinned by a commitment to education, access and participation, and healthy lives. The University is delighted to continue our association with Dr Keith Howard OBE and the Keith Howard Foundation through this scholarship.

The University is looking to make awards to four Keith Howard Scholars on the basis of them meeting all of the eligibility requirements and on the strength of their personal statement in the application form for the scholarship.
