Duties of the Role

The Tennis Development Officer at the University of Essex plays a role with a broad spectrum of responsibilities aimed at enhancing tennis engagement and fostering participation growth. Key initiatives include devising innovative recreational offerings and expanding competitive opportunities to attract new student players while establishing inclusive playing pathways.

Additionally, the role involves creating employability pathways for students and optimising revenue generation through various tennis activities, including adult and junior tennis courses, social sessions, and community outreach projects. These efforts are aligned with the LTA action plan to meet agreed funding targets.

While the role is predominantly developmental, the Tennis Development Officer will also be required to coach, with a minimum expectation of 5 hours per week, ensuring a hands-on approach to fostering growth and engagement across our tennis programme.

Skills and qualifications required

The ideal candidate for the Tennis Development Officer position should possess a minimum of a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Level 2 qualifications or equivalent, with a drive to progress towards their level 3. Additionally, a degree in a sport-related discipline or equivalent experience, preferably including with children, whether paid or voluntary capacities. They must also possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills and be able to balance a diverse and varied work programme to meet multiple key performance indicators (KPI’s). Importantly, the position requires a passion/interest in tennis, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
