Technical Project Manager

About the role

The Earth Observation Science Group and the Space Projects and Instrumentation Group at the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester seek a technical project manager. The successful candidate will be based at Space Park Leicester and work under the supervision of Dr Joshua Vande Hey to contribute to the delivery of two major Earth observation technology hardware development projects for observing the atmosphere from space.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the day to day management of two projects developing spectrometers for satellite deployment.  You will liaise closely with the University of Leicester scientific and technical teams, and support communication and relationship management with national and international partners, suppliers and other key stakeholders.  You will oversee project risk registers and carefully monitor project scope and progress toward meeting success criteria.  Your technical/scientific background will be important in particular in helping to support management of scope and evaluation of success criteria.  This work requires a detail oriented individual with good communication skills for both technical and non-technical arenas.


About you
With a degree or equivalent experience in science or engineering and experience of working within scientific projects, you will be able to evidence strong technical understanding, clear communication skills and a high level of organisation.  You will be a self-starter with a flexible and adaptable approach to work and pro-active approach problem solving.  You will have experience of both independent and collaborative working.  Experience of the management of instrumentation and/or engineering projects is desirable.
