About the role

You will work as part of a team within the Boots Science Building to provide support for staff and students, on a range of instrumentation and providing line management to the building’s technical staff.

You will play a key role as a Health and Safety Assistant for health and safety approvals, document control and approval, policy changes, committee representation, auditing, and housekeeping inspections.

You will act as the technical representative on the School’s Research Committee.

You will provide management of the particle characterization facility. This includes key instrument techniques (dynamic light scattering, zeta potential and laser diffraction characterisation for nano and micron sized particles), instrument maintenance, liaising with suppliers regarding breakdown or repair and requesting quotes/tender from suppliers for repair, replacement, or new instrumentation.

You will provide supplementary training and back up support, overseeing training delivered by junior members of the technical team and managing laboratory finances.

About you

You will have experience working in a technical role. You will be educated to at least HNC or equivalent or have equivalent working experience in a relevant technical or scientific role. You will have skills and experience of managing people, support and motivate them[EM1] . Specific technical training can be provided where essential for the post.

This is a fixed term, full time (36.25 hours per week) post available until July 2025, with the possibility of becoming a permanent role. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
