The School of Geography & Environmental Science is seeking to appoint a full time Teaching Fellow / Senior Teaching Fellow in Sustainability for a fixed term contract of two years (with the possibility for contract extension). The successful applicant will be involved in delivering undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and assessment on our Environmental Science and Physical Geography programmes, supporting and mentoring taught students, as well as contributing to the smooth running of the school. Whilst the post is advertised at level 4, for an appropriately qualified candidate there is the potential to appoint at level 5.

If appointed, you will be responsible for delivering taught content on a range of modules, marking student work (including exams, coursework, and undergraduate dissertations), as well as contributing to undergraduate residential field trips. We are seeking someone able to contribute to one or more of our GIS, Remote Sensing, Climate Change, and Environmental Pollution modules, as well as contributing to our Environmental Science and / or Physical Geography residential field courses. If appointed at level 5, you may lead one or more of these modules. In addition to module level teaching, you will also be providing academic support for students, as well as supervising and marking postgraduate and undergraduate dissertation projects. There is scope in this post for contributing to novel and new methods in teaching and learning, and the school actively supports delivery of innovative teaching methods and approaches. You will also be responsible for defined administrative role(s) appropriate to your experience and expertise.

Experience with undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching is preferred; formal training in or recognition of teaching proficiency is desirable. The School and University also offers mentorship support and a variety of opportunities for skill-building and professional development, including established pathways to achieving Fellowship of Advance HE . We welcome applications from scholars with an active interest in, and/or previous experience with, de-colonising physical science curricula.

If successful, you will join one of the School’s four vibrant research groups: Environmental Change and Sustainability; Economy, Society, and Governance; Landscape Dynamics and Ecology; or Population, Health, and Wellbeing. You will have the opportunity to develop networks with colleagues in the school and across the wider University community, which may be of benefit for future collaborative research funding bids.

The School is committed to fostering a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion . We encourage applications from suitably qualified candidates from under-represented groups among academics at the University, for example: people from Black and minority ethnic groups; and disabled people. We are a Disability Confident employer and the School holds a bronze Athena SWAN award

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Kate Parks (Director of Programmes; [email protected] ), Dr Jo Nield (Programme Lead, Physical Geography; [email protected]), or Prof Simon Kemp (Programme Lead, Environmental Science; [email protected] ).
