The Department of Classics at Royal Holloway University of London seeks to appoint a fixed-term Teaching Fellow beginning on 1 September 2024. 

The appointee will be expected to have a proven record of excellence in teaching Classical Literature and Latin Language, or, in the case of early-career candidates, relevant experience and demonstrable potential.

The appointee will be expected to play a full and active role in teaching in the Department of Classics. They will be required to teach, convene, and examine the following undergraduate courses: Latin at Advanced Level (30 credits), a 15-credit module on Virgil’s Aeneid, 50% of the Contemporary Approaches to Latin Literature module, and two introductory 15-credit modules on Greek and Latin Literature. They will also be required to supervise second-year projects on Virgil and final-year students’ dissertations and to support Foundation Year students in project work. Additionally, the appointee will be expected to contribute to administrative duties, taking on a small administrative load, and to attend relevant meetings and committees, as required. They will work closely with the Head of Department, the UG Education Lead and other academic members of staff in areas including curriculum design, lesson planning, and the development and implementation of learning technologies. and for offering pastoral support as Personal Tutor.  

Applicants should have experience of teaching Latin language and Classical literature, ideally to undergraduates in a university environment. They should have a strong and demonstrable commitment to teaching these subject areas.
