We are looking to recruit a full time Teaching Associate (Study Skills & Supervision Co-ordinator) from 2nd September 2024 or as soon after as possible to provide teaching and undergraduate supervision co-ordination in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge. The subject expertise area is open.
You will:
- Co-ordinate undergraduate supervisions for SOC2 and SOC3 (250+ students) plus other Part IIA and B papers as required. The peak for this work is September-October and January-February,
- Provide study skills sessions for undergraduate and MPhil students,
- Teach and supervise on undergraduate papers as appropriate to your subject expertise, including SOC4 Concepts and arguments and the Undergraduate Dissertation papers,
- Teach on the MPhil in Sociology according to your subject specialism,
- Supervise MPhil students according to your subject specialism,
- Undertake outreach activities,
- Undertake marking and examining.
General duties will include teaching, course development and innovation, outreach and examining. As Teaching Associate you will be expected to support and maintain the Department's and University's national and international reputation for excellence in teaching. Progression for this role is through the Academic (teaching and Scholarship) Career Pathway.
You will have relevant teaching experience, hold a PhD in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate active, collegial engagement in research, teaching and outreach in Sociology. You will be an engaging and confident teacher at undergraduate and postgraduate level, or looking to develop postgraduate teaching skills. You will be extremely organised, a good communicator, and be a skilled administrator. If you have quantitative research method skills this would be an advantage.
The Department of Sociology is part of a joint undergraduate degree programme in Human, Social and Political Sciences (HSPS) and also has a vibrant MPhil and PhD programme. There are currently about 80 students working on PhDs on a diverse range of topics in sociology.
