Part time - 20 hours a week (Monday – Friday 1pm – 5pm)

We currently have an opportunity for a part time afternoons Switchboard Operator within 1st Degree Facilities.  You will act as the 1st point of contact for anyone calling the University via the main switchboard telephone number, politely and efficiently assessing the callers needs to redirect to the most appropriate team or individual within the University. Experience of operating a switchboard would be an advantage but full training will be provided to the successful candidate. Other duties include support for the help desk at peak times.

Occasional weekend cover will be required for our Open Days / Discovery Days and Welcome weekend.

The area of work will be at our Resource Centre, The Old Dairy, Southfield Avenue, Far Cotton Northampton, NN4 8AQ.

We are an accredited Living Wage Foundation Employer and currently pay the real living wage. In recognition of this, the starting salary for this post has been increased to pay the higher amount which currently supersedes the actual Grade 3 salary before living wage which is £20,880 - £22,214 per annum (pro rata).

About you

The ideal candidate will have;

  • Excellent IT skills, with knowledge of MS Office
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels
  • A flexible approach to the working environment and hours of operation
  • Friendly and efficient telephone manner with the ability to cope with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy
  • Able to work under pressure, managing conflicting demands
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Qualifications

Essential

  • Education to GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Mathematics
  • Customer Service Training or equivalent experience in an applicable industry
