Statistical Software Developer (Fixed Term)

The MRC Biostatistics Unit is offering an exciting opportunity for a statistical software developer interested in developing high quality statistical applications. The principal role of the job holder is to work closely with our researchers to convert cutting-edge statistical algorithms and methods into robust and user-friendly applications for wider use. This may include R/Bioconductor packages, Python packages, Shiny applications, web-based interfaces, Docker containers or Nextflow computational pipelines.
The role holder will also help create test sets to ensure the applications are reproducible, robust and produce the results required. The successful candidate will support our researchers in hosting the applications in appropriate repositories/servers and contribute to the creation of technical documentation, tutorials, course materials and help pages. The role holder will also be the key contact in assisting users with Linux services.

Candidates for this position should have a degree in a quantitative relevant discipline. R/Bioconductor proficiency, bash scripting, and exposure to Linux OS is required. Proficiency in Python, Julia or in development of web-based data interactive (dashboards) applications with shiny is also desirable. A cooperative approach to working is needed for this position, as well as an ability to communicate and interact with colleagues with other backgrounds.

The MRC Biostatistics Unit is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions. Our focus is to deliver new analytical and computational strategies based on sound statistical principles for the challenging tasks facing biomedicine and public health.
