Faculty of Science is founded on basic scientific research applied and complemented by the disciplines of geography and geology. The Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) is a multi- and interdisciplinary research unit based in physics, chemistry, meteorology, forest sciences, environmental sciences and social sciences at the University of Helsinki. INAR aims to strengthen the internationally leading, integrated multidisciplinary research and education environment for atmospheric and Earth system science, and to provide scientific results for national and international environmental and climate policy. It performs multiscale research from molecular to global scales, and focuses on climate change, air quality, biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem processes. INAR has INAR Finland Network partners at the Finnish Meteorological Institute, University of Eastern Finland and Tampere University.
The Faculty of Science invites applications for the position of
STAFF SCIENTIST (UNIVERSITY RESEARCHER)
for HU CF for condensable vapors and sub-10 nm aerosol particles. The position is permanent starting from 1.1.2022 or according to agreement. The staff scientist will act as the director of the UHEL CFs.
The position is in University of Helsinki hosted sub-unit in ACTRIS Centre for Reactive Trace Gases In Situ Measurements (CiGas) and ACTRIS Centre for Aerosol In Situ Measurements (CAIS/ECAC).
The core activity is to coordinate the work done in the two sub-units in Helsinki related to condensable vapors and sub-10nm aerosol measurements. The person is responsible for interactions between the UHEL sub-units and related ACTRIS CF units (CIGAS and ECAC) as well as with the ACTRIS HO. The person needs to have proven expertise in ACTRIS governance and RI operations. The person should have experience in working with aerosol and trace gas instrumentation in the field or in the laboratory as well as associated data analysis.
The other half of the work will consist of coordination, reporting, planning, and administrative tasks related to ACTRIS Finland, and ACCC (Atmosphere and Climate Competence Center) Flagship. More specifically, coordination of the national level ACTRIS activities and ensuring proper information flow from the European level to national level and vice versa regarding the ACTRIS development; contributing to ACCC administrative tasks, reporting, coordination of financial reporting, coordination of virtual office.
Applicants are required to have doctoral degree in atmospheric sciences or similar (physics, chemistry etc).
The starting salary will be of the staff scientist will be ca. 4000-5000 euros/month depending o the qualifications and merits of the nominee.
