Student Services / Wellbeing Service

Student Services is a large multi-disciplinary team that plays a crucial role in supporting our students. The Wellbeing Service is an umbrella term used to describe our various teams, Counselling, Disability & Mental Health, Welfare, Faith and Student Liaison. We provide a holistic approach to student support to ensure students’ individual needs are fully met to enhance their academic success, aid student experience and develop each student as an individual. The Wellbeing team is a busy and in-demand service. We are a tight knit team who help and support each other. We work hard and most importantly have fun along the way.

The Role 

The Wellbeing Adviser (Disability) and Specialist Study Skills Tutor will work 1:1 with students offering specialist advice and guidance to ensure their disability and mental health requirements are fully supported. You will be required to produce Individual Support Plans (ISP’s) for students recommending appropriate reasonable adjustments to support them during their studies. You will provide reflections around student’s disability needs and make appropriate referrals, both internally and externally. As part of your role, you will also deliver 1to1 specialist study skills sessions for students with SpLDs and Autism with the aim of helping them develop independent learning skills. At times you will also be expected to support colleagues in the Mental health team by supporting students with a wide range of mental health conditions.

The Person 

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team on a temporary basis for one year. You will be self-motivated, proactive and well organised person, who can work equally well as a team member and on an individual basis using your own initiative. You will be experienced working with individuals with different disabilities and able to offer specialist 1:1 advice to support their needs and help them in their studies. You will hold appropriate specialist teaching qualification and be current member of one of the following organisations: PATOSS, ADSHE, Dyslexia Association or Dyslexia Guild and have previous experience supporting students with developing independent learning skills through specialist study skills sessions. You will have experience effectively supporting people with a variety of disabilities, neurodiverse conditions, and mental health challenges/crisis.
