Has your experience to date given you a good understanding of HR processes and practices and operational excellence processes like Lean, Six Sigma etc? Are you looking for a fresh challenge in an environment that’s open, vibrant and welcomes new ideas? Then join the University of East London’s People & Culture Directorate as a Service Improvement Lead – Digital First.

It’s a particularly exciting time here at the University as, under our 10-year strategy, Vision 2028, there are big changes happening. Committed to driving diversity in the 5.0 talent pipeline, we work in partnership to promote talent wherever it is found and strive to create a balanced, inclusive and green future and provide our students with the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our Digital First Transformation Programme is a key enabler of a vision that will deliver the digital solutions required to drive further transformation – and you could soon be a key player in its future.

Our People & Culture (P&C) directorate consists of five distinct core functions - Talent Acquisition, Employee Experience & Development, Operations, Systems & Service, Employee Relations & Policy and Health and Safety & Wellbeing. Collectively, they’re responsible, in partnership with stakeholders across the organisation, for delivering the University’s people strategy. The aim is to create an environment where people are attracted to work at the University and helped to develop and grow and deliver their best work in a high-performing and supportive environment.

Working across the P&C team, you’ll play a critical role in improving our business-as-usual processes and systems and preparing us for an exciting range of Digital First Projects. Indeed, we’ll rely on you to prioritise and review our Business Processes, i.e. find ways to improve them both the in short term by making changes, and in the long-term inform our Digital First plans. Along the way, you’ll also get to collaborate with service leads to create a Service Catalogue and introduce SLAS/Performance indicators. Put simply, you’ll be the lynchpin that connects us to the University’s Digital First programmes and our conduit to other critical services, including IT/procurement/project management etc.

Thoroughly analysing existing processes, establishing benchmarks and performance indicators, leading the delivery of programme work deliverables and having input to the development of a change management programme – these are just some aspects of this interesting and varied role.

To succeed, you’ll need a proven relevant track record, clear, concise communication skills, plus the ability to get groups of people to work together and influence their decision making. Comfortable dealing with high level of ambiguity and adjusting plans accordingly, you also have a flair for galvanising the support of others in supporting change. Generalist HR experience that’s included working on change management initiatives would be an advantage, as would evidence of ongoing professional development. And, if you’ve worked in the Higher Education sector or engaged with private/public sector industry/government/ business services, even better, although this is not essential.

Qualifications relating to HR, training, development, reward, or engagement are preferred, as is CIPD (level 7) accreditation. However, we’re more excited about your proven experience and impact in previous roles than a specific certification.
