This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and experienced marketing professional to join the University and help us become sector leading in our approach to student recruitment.

The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating and producing a range of professional, high quality and effective marketing content and material to help build relationships with prospective students throughout the student recruitment journey. You will also be responsible for leading on the delivery of digital student recruitment activity for some specific target markets.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) and be a confident communicator, with excellent copywriting, proof reading and editing skills.

You must have experience of co-ordinating and producing marketing material, excellent organisation skills, an understanding of the University’s main target audiences.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is essential for this post.

This is a permanent position and the successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible.

This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

Purpose of the Job

This post has responsibility for the development and management of a range of content which will creatively and effectively tell the brand story of Bangor University in a student recruitment context and will be responsible for leading the development of the online content that supports the student recruitment journey.

This content will include written narrative, long and short, video and photography.

It will need to be designed for use across a variety of on and offline media and it will need to be adapted and tailored to target specific audiences.

The role will be key in supporting the University to raise awareness of who and what Bangor University inside and outside Wales, making it relevant for a Welsh, English and wider UK audience.

The postholder will need to be engaged with other areas of the Directorate including communications, recruitment, international and alumni, to support and integrate with their aims and objective


Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • To create a Content Development Plan which addresses the recruitment marketing needs of the University, taking into account general and targeted needs.
  • To develop visual content including video and photographs, which tell the University story and which comply with and support the University Corporate Identity.
  • To creatively develop content to support University recruitment marketing campaigns ensuring that they reach and engage their target audience and tailor such content for use across different mediums including online and print.
  • To build close working relationships with colleagues in communications, recruitment and international to develop content to support and underpin their areas of work.
  • To work with alumni colleagues to develop a plan and content related to alumni and their successes and experience of Bangor University.
  • To input to the University content asset library.
  • To manage external agencies employed to deliver services which contribute to or utilise brand related content.
  • In all cases to develop content in Welsh and English ensuring a ‘Welsh First’ approach to all Welsh versions and not simply translating the English version into Welsh.
  • To undertake research into target audience content needs and how different types of content and messages are received and interpreted and present findings to senior managers.
  • To manage budgets and staff as may be assigned from time to time.
  • To be actively engaged with the Higher Education sector and to be regularly monitoring the activity of competitors to understand Bangor’s position within its market and target content development accordingly.
  • To support the Clearing process as part of the wider recruitment team.
  • Provide cross-section support on events and activities in relation to UK recruitment and widening participation, including attending open and offer holder days, UCAS fairs and delivering presentations where required. This may involve staying away from home and will involve working some evenings and weekends.

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in a related subject or equivalent relevant experience and/or qualification.

Desirable

  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • Previous experience in a content development role with evidence of significant positive impact on awareness and understanding of the brand.
  • Experience of developing content for use across multiple channels and which is targeted effectively at the audience.
  • Experience of developing content specifically for the Welsh speaking market. · Experience of writing content in a variety of formats including long narrative and short sound bites.
  • Experience of creating video and photographic content for use across a variety of media and platforms.
  • Experience of directing photographic and video shoots for use in high quality productions/publications.
  • Experience of managing creative production and design agencies.
  • Experience of setting up and running systems for the storage and management of content.
  • Experience of student recruitment in a HEI context.

Desirable

  • Experience of content development in a large complex organisation.
  • Experience in a similar role within higher education.
