The Good Growth Entrepreneurial Futures project is an exciting new partnership project funded through new Cornwall and Isles of Scilly (IoS) Good Growth Fund. The project brings together HE (Higher Education) and FE (Further Education) in Cornwall to work with businesses to deliver an extensive programme of Research, Development and Innovation (RDandI) led growth activities to drive productivity increased in the region.

Working with the University of Exeter, University of Falmouth and Cornwall College, the University of Plymouth is delivering research-led growth projects for clean energy, net-zero, agri-food, immersive technologies and coastal communities. This post is one of three which will be supporting delivery of the immersive technologies aspect of the project

You will work closely with the wider project and technical team to engage with university academics, drive impact, connect partners, create opportunities and generate value from leading-edge research and education in Cornwall and the IoS.

Based on main Plymouth campus within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business’ Technical Team, you’ll have access across the Institution’s cutting edge facilities including in the Roland Levinsky and newly opened Babbage buildings. You will be working collaboratively with highly motivated and creative colleagues from within the university as well as Entrepreneurial Futures partnership.

The Senior Technician – R,DandI Business Engagement (Immersive) will champion the University’s immersive facilities, research and expertise, identifying and developing projects and collaborations with a priority focus on research, development and innovation, exposing businesses to new and exciting applications of digital technologies.

Some key duties include:

  • Working closely with the Knowledge Exchange Specialist, academic colleagues and student participants, support the delivery of a compelling offer for business, to enable the collaborative development of new products, services and experiences, which aligns with Entrepreneurial Futures and maximises mutual benefits to academics and students.
  • Planning and delivering engagement events, workshops and training sessions that demonstrate the capability of immersive and digital technologies and increase awareness and understanding of their potential.
  • Pro-actively contributing to client and project meetings, reporting and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Identifying and actively participating in a range of relevant networks, events, conferences, in order to increase profile and visibility with an appropriate business audience, and to ensure that our capabilities are clearly communicated and well understood.
  • Supporting the development of collaborative KE / innovation and research funding bids and projects.

Please note – UK Shared Prosperity Fund – this project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as the Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

There is an essential requirement within this role that you will be required to travel to and work at different University sites and/or other business locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Please refer to the job description for further information.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2025 subject to funding.  Please note - due to the fixed term nature of this post, you will need to be able to commence employment as soon as possible after offer.
