Technical Services 6 grade 6 from £33966 to £44263 per annum. Subject to annual pay award.

Full Time, Open Ended

The Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering is one of the UK’s largest engineering schools. The school cover a diverse number of engineering disciplines with include conventional electronic and mechanical disciplines, robotics, artificial intelligence, sports technology, energy engineering and even a centre for biological engineering. To cover this dynamic spectrum of engineering disciplines the school is supported by over 250 staff, and has 1,950 undergraduate students, 200+ post graduate MSc students and 150+ research students.
In support of this diverse spectrum of engineering the school has a variety of specialist electrical and electronic equipment used for research and teaching. This includes the STEMLab facility with two state-of-the-art teaching laboratories and our new DIGILabs. The successful candidate will become part of an experienced electrical / electronic workshop team providing support to both taught and research activities.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team to ensure that taught and research activities are completed in a timely manner. They will help in the setting up of lab session within the school including our STEMLab and the new DIGILab facilities.

They will provide advice and support to student and staff in the development of their research projects. In addition, you will be expected to provide supervisory cover during times when the workshop supervisor is absent or not available. This will include the management of staff and the workflow through the department.

You will have a good understanding of PCB manufacture and ideally have some knowledge of PLC and PC control systems.

You will participate in and oversee the provision of technical Instruction for the design, development, build, test, and calibration of unique electronic / electrical cabinets. In addition, you will help maintain existing and develop, dedicated instrumentation, and research rigs, including the preparation of circuit diagrams and associated paperwork as required.


You will be expected to follow best practice in the safe use and maintenance of the workshop facilities and will complete the required weekly safety checks on the equipment.

You will be part of a dedicated team of electrical / electronic engineering technical staff ensuring a flexible, high quality and timely service is provided to the school’s many customers within an ever-changing research and teaching influenced environment.
