Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £28,397 to £30,210, with potential progression once in post to £33,938

Role Summary
The University of Birmingham seeks to recruit a committed and enthusiastic clinical skills and simulation technician to expand upon our dedicated, high quality technical support in our clinical skills and simulation spaces.
The Infrastructure and Facilities team provides support across the College to ensure physical facilities and technical resources meet the needs of the College and its constituent Institutes. This includes the provision of specialist practical teaching accommodation and technical support; core services support to provide autoclaving, glass washing and stores; specialist research services including flow cytometry and imaging; the maintenance and development of our estate including collaboration and partnership with University Estates, Campus Services, IT Services and Library Services; technical and laboratory management to our constituent Institutes including specialist support and advice for health and safety management, management and development of research technical staff in partnership with academic principal investigators and the management and support of equipment and space.
This role is part of a wider team of dedicated staff supporting the provision of specialist practical teaching facilities. Working alongside colleagues supporting both anatomy and clinical skills, you will support specialist teaching within our clinical skills and simulation teaching facilities. These facilities are currently located across several areas of the Medical School building and are used by a wide range of teaching programmes to train future healthcare professionals.
This successful applicant will be committed to continually improving and developing the service to provide an excellent experience for all users of the facility. This role will require you to engage as part of the team to embed and develop the skills/simulation provision within a stimulating experiential learning environment. Applicants must possess excellent digital literacy knowledge and be willing to develop experience of providing technical support both for the hardware and software associated with simulation-based education. This post will involve heavy lifting that includes moving full-body patient simulators safely.
Person Specification
- Extensive relevant workplace experience in an educational, healthcare or customer care environment, equivalent professional qualification or degree in an appropriate subject.
- Commitment to continuous service improvements through personal, team and career development.
- Proactive approach to learning and developing new skills; You will be encouraged and supported to obtain a level 3 qualification in Simulation-based Education and be encouraged to apply for Professional Registration.
- GCSE level 2 (A*- C/4-9) or equivalent level 2 qualification in mathematics and English.
- In-depth practical knowledge of relevant technical and scientific methods.
