The role is integral to an EPSRC-funded project titled "ProSensing: Low-Power, High-Speed, Adaptable Processing-In-Sensing Capability" while working closely with Defence and Security Stakeholders.

Project Overview: The ProSensing project is a collaborative effort involving multiple partners, including Edinburgh, Strathclyde, and Nottingham Trent Universities. Its primary objective is to redefine intelligent local embedding, enabling edge training. This will be achieved through the development of innovative in-sensing processing elements, incorporating electronic and photonic control, coupled with advancements in tinyML technologies. The focus of this particular post is on implementing tinyML on next-generation, resource-constrained edge devices with enhanced smart sensing capabilities.

You will be based at Nottingham Trent University’s School of Science and Technology on our Clifton Campus.

Roles and Responsibilities: As a successful candidate, you will be come an integral part of the vibrant and collaborative Smart Sensing Lab. This team is at the forefront of developing tinyML technologies, maintaining strong connections with the tinyML foundation (tinyML.org) and various industrial partners.

In addition to contributing to the Pro Sensing project's technical development, you will assume a senior role within the lab. This involves overseeing the acquisition and management of other projects, as well as providing supervision to researchers and students. You will receive support from an academic team with specialized knowledge and experience relevant to the subject.

Qualifications and Experience: We are seeking candidates with a doctoral degree and substantial experience in Persuasive and Edge Computing or related areas. Essential expertise includes embedded and sensing systems, tinyML, data science, AI and software development. Responsibilities encompass active involvement in the ProSensing project's development activities, such as AI on Edge tools, collaboration with project stakeholders, and engagement with the consortium and Defence and Security stakeholders.

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong coding skills with background in machine learning,
  • Extensive experience in building Neural Network models and a solid foundation in mathematics.
  • Technical proficiency in Python, C, or C++, and familiarity with Tensorflow Lite/Micro or Verilog
