About the Woolf Institute
We are an independent charity affiliated with the University of Cambridge through our partnerships with the Cambridge Theological Federation, St Edmund’s College, and the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. We seek to build understanding and trust between Jews, Muslims, and Christians, and between religious groups and wider society, through research, education, and public engagement. We celebrated our 25th anniversary in 2023.
Purpose of the role
As the Senior Research Fellow, you will play a key role in the Institute through developing a pipeline of research projects, and conducting a fixed-term project. This is an opportunity for an established scholar in the social sciences to join a thriving team and contribute to understandings of religion and interfaith relations.
Key responsibilities
Working collaboratively and collegially is central to the ethos of the Woolf Institute. The Senior Research Fellow will work on-site, attend and contribute to Woolf events, and lead in establishing an ethos of excellent communication and collaboration in the team of Researchers.
The Senior Research Fellow will propose and plan a pipeline for future projects for the Woolf Institute, working closely with the Directors to develop research plans that meet the strategic aims of the Institute, and applying for funding for the next round of projects.
The Senior Research Fellow will also complete an approved social science research project over three years, bringing together the Fellow’s own academic expertise with the Woolf Institute’s strategic aims. The research will have an integral dimension of public engagement, and the Senior Fellow will work closely with the Director of Education and Engagement to plan for public contributions to and outputs from the research. We are especially interested to receive proposals related to the study of Islam.
There is a possibility of renewal beyond the three-year fixed term if the Fellow secures funding for an approved, further project.
The post will begin on a date to be negotiated June-August 2024.
How to apply
Please send a covering letter, CV, and a 2-page research proposal to [email protected] by the closing date of 19 March. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on 26-27 March.
