Duties and Responsibilities


Paul Warburton’s group at University College London is looking to appoint an experimentalist post-doctoral research assistant to work on quantum annealing using aluminium SQUIDs. The post-doc will primarily work off-site at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, with whom UCL is collaborating. The post-doc will work on the design and measurement of circuit elements of a prototype quantum annealing machine, working as part of the multi-institution international "FluQS" project funded by the US government agency IARPA.



This position is funded for one year in the first instance, with options for four further years subject to satisfactory progress of the project.


Key Requirements


The successful applicant will have a PhD in experimental physics or experimental materials science or experimental electrical engineering. He or she will have hands-on experience of designing, installing and performing electrical transport measurements in a dilution refrigerator leading to publications in the international peer-reviewed literature; hands-on experience of performing radio frequency measurements in a dilution refrigerator at frequencies above 1 GHz; hands-on experience of designing, installing and performing measurements on Josephson junctions or superconducting quantum interference devices; and a record of publication in peer-reviewed academic journals as first author.



The successful applicant must be willing and in a position to undergo the usual security clearances for working at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
